National Prayer and Missions Month 2008 Foreword

Dear Friend,

Welcome to the devotional series for OCF Australia’s National Prayer and Missions Month (NPMM). We look forward to this journey together over the next 4 weeks, seeking God’s face and listening to His voice. The theme for this year is “Back to Basics” which is the focus of OCF Australia for 2008. The theme verse is taken from Acts 2:42-47.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

The NPMM booklet is divided into four sections, focusing on the basic fundamentals of our faith:

1.    Prayer
2.    Bible Study
3.    Discipleship
4.    Evangelism & Missions

One thing that is different from previous NPMM booklets is the shortened devotion section. This was done in response to feedback given that most members have and are already using their own devotional materials. Hence, only a short verse and thought to ponder is included, and they are all taken from the book of Acts. Instead, articles based on the 4 main topics have been written by ex-OCFers who are faithfully serving the Lord in various capacities now. For those who are interested, you can actually read 1 chapter of Acts a day for each of the 28 days, since Acts has exactly 28 chapters!

But more importantly, let us use this booklet to PRAY fervently and persistently for the lost and unreached in our campuses and the nations of the world. Let us also uphold each other in prayer during this special month, believing in faith that God can and will do great things – more than we can hope or imagine! As Hans von Staden once said, “When man works, man works; when man prays, God works.”

Last but not least, many thanks to those who have contributed to this booklet!

With much love, and God bless…
